I love the powerful family dynamic, lifelong love of learning, and excellent individualized education that can be achieved through homeschooling. Teaching in both private and public schools has given me a window into the different educations that children receive in different settings. While there are benefits to each setting, my appreciation of homeschooling has only grown. Giving kids individual attention, letting them work at their own pace, and truly being able to tailor learning to their interests and learning styles has such amazing power in creating a lifelong love of learning. I want to be a resource for you to help you thrive in any way I can.
Evaluations are a logistical aspect of homeschooling that I am here to help with. Following the requirements of the PA Homeschool Law, I will interview you student and review their portfolio. Next, I will give you a written report that your student has received an appropriate education to submit to the superintendent of the school district in which you reside. The law defines an appropriate education as the required the courses for the required amount of time and sustained progress in the overall program.
As a teacher and a homeschooler, I delight in making learning exciting and engaging. I see it as an adventure and love to invite students into that adventure with me.
There’s a special place in my heart for the Humanities. I’d love to offer special small group experiences to supplement your English, Social Studies, and Art curriculum. In these programs, students will adventure through Jane Austen’s novels in a book club, the early history and famous visitors of Centre County through field trips, the etiquette rules that help them comfortably adapt to any social situation through fun practice events, or the joy of creating something themselves through crocheting, cross-stitching, or other crafts. Let’s add some excitement and life to learning!
I was homeschooled 1st-12th grade in rural, Victorian PA and remote Papua New Guinea. After studying Secondary Education English and Teaching English as a Second Language at Cornerstone University, I substitute taught for one year and then have taught 7th grade English for the last six years at Park Forest Middle School. During that time, I earned my Master of Education from Wilson College. I have a passion to encourage homeschool families and assist them through evaluation and small group instruction services.
